Arrest: extorting money from a businessman with physical and death threats. Arrested in flagrante delicto.
In compliance with the rights of the persons under investigation, to be considered presumed innocent in consideration of the current stage of the preliminary investigation procedure, until a definitive determination of guilt with an irrevocable sentence, and in order to ensure the constitutionally guaranteed right to report, it is hereby communicated that the State Police of Fermo, last Saturday, proceeded upon arrest, in flagrante delicto, of a well-known criminal who had started, according to the data collected by the Judicial Police, a extortion activity to the detriment of an entrepreneur operating between the provinces of Fermo and Macerata.
The story originates from a report that reached the offices of the Fermo Flying Squad, in which numerous visits by the alleged extortionist highlighted at the company where the entrepreneur was subjected to threats and taxes relating to an alleged debt of approximately €10.000. The entrepreneur, under even physical threat, he was supposed to take on a debt owed by one of his collaborators, who was also an employee at a company connected to the company, because he was "guilty" of having hired him and worked with him, without ensuring that he had repaid the debt to the arrested man.
In fact, since the beginning of last summer, the offender has made numerous visits aimed at “remember” the payment of the debt through intimidations of various nature and scope, which ranged from the threat of physically removing, by force, the "delinquent worker", up to actual death threats against the entrepreneur. From here the victim, frightened, made a partial payment of the debt "taken on by force", first with the payment of € 2000 and then with further fractional payments that the arrested person collected directly from the company.
In the last meetings, one of which was in September, the extorted entrepreneur objected that the debt was not his and that the worker would start working on his own, therefore he was not held liable for the debt of others.
The arrested man, however, ordered him to pay promptly because the debt had become his, for the sole fact of keeping that worker in the company and that he would have to take it all on. Alternatively, the entrepreneur could have sell him a house he owns, thus deducting the debt itself.
In response to these harassments and intimidations, the entrepreneur asked to deduct the sums already paid but the arrested man, every time he went to visit him, said that the debt still remained €10.000.
At that point, the victim would agree on a date to pay the sum due in order to free himself from the extortionist grip, establishing his company headquarters as the meeting place.
Given the very serious evidence, the Fermo Flying Squad informed the Public Prosecutor's Office at the Court of Macerata, starting an urgent investigative activity, aimed at monitoring the alleged extortionist behavior in progress.
Under constant directives from the Public Prosecutor's Office, given the little time available to the investigating bodies, they prepared, without interruption, targeted surveillance aimed at monitoring both the extortionist that the places where the money would have been delivered, in order to collect evidence of the criminal conduct.
Given the victim's collaboration and the severity of extortion episodes, due to the absolute criminal calibre of the arrested person, the Fermo Flying Squad with the operational support of the SISCO of Ancona and a contingent of the Macerata Flying Squad, proceeded to prepare a specific observation service and emergency intervention inside the places where the exchange of money could have taken place, in order to fully document the agreed meeting.
The police, in close contact with the Public Prosecutor's Office of Macerata, they followed the entire development of the meeting, by positioning themselves in the places agreed upon for the exchange, in order to avoid the possible escape of the suspect.
So, once upon a time the exchange of money took place with the entrepreneur and while the extortionist was preparing to leave the company headquarters with the previously received money still on him, thus leading to the arrest of the subject on the charge of continued extortion.
