The car's exhaust fumes had already invaded the passenger compartment, sealed with adhesive tape and connected with a rubber hose to the exhaust pipe. When the Carabinieri from the NOR of Alessandria arrived on site, the 26-year-old was now unconscious and it would have taken a few minutes for there to be nothing left for him to do.
After tearing the tube, the Carabinieri opened the door of the car to allow the gases to escape and the outside air to oxygenate the passenger compartment, quickly managing to find the victim, who was subsequently rescued by 118 personnel arrived on site and transported to Alessandria Hospital. Given the serious intoxication, in the evening, the 26-year-old was then transferred to a specialized facility equipped with a hyperbaric chamber, where he still is, out of danger of his life.
It all started at 11am on August 30, when the victim's girlfriend had contacted 6 to report that her partner, recently suffering from depression, had expressed the intention of taking his own life and had left in the car without saying where he was. direct.
The Operations Center immediately launched the search and shortly afterwards, around midday, the Radiomobile crew identified the 26-year-old's car in muddy terrain near the Po river, reached after traveling several kilometers of dirt road, skirting woods and cultivated fields . Not being able to continue on the muddy ground, as the service car would have got stuck, the Carabinieri got out of the vehicle and, running so as not to waste precious time, reached the car which was about 300 meters ahead, at the same time notifying the Central Explaining what was happening and asking for an ambulance.
Having reached the car, one of the Carabinieri disconnected the rubber hose from the exhaust terminal, while his colleague removed the other end of the hose from the passenger compartment, sealed with adhesive tape, and opened the door, finding the boy already inside. senseless.
With the engine of the car turned off, the interior of which was completely saturated with gas, they tried to extract the 26-year-old, of imposing size, risking in turn inhaling the toxic gases. At that point, having opened the car completely, the Carabinieri managed to revive the victim, who finally opened his eyes and uttered incomprehensible words, then making sure to prevent him from losing consciousness again before help arrived.
Upon the arrival of the medical staff, the 26-year-old was stabilized and, with considerable difficulty, was extracted from the vehicle and placed on a stretcher, in a semi-unconscious state, before being taken to the Alessandria emergency room and, a few hours later late, at the hyperbaric chamber in Novara.
At the moment, the 26-year-old is no longer in danger, thanks to the timely intervention of the Carabinieri who saved his life.
