Tuscania (Viterbo), a criminal association of drug traffickers defeated: 5 people arrested

At the conclusion of a complex and prolonged investigative activity conducted by NORM (Operational and Radiomobile Unit) of the Carabinieri Company of Tuscania, the military broke up a drug trafficking ring referring to the Judicial Authority of Civitavecchia 17 people held responsible, in various capacities and each with their respective roles, for the crimes of production and trafficking of narcotic substances and extortion. Su ten of these the Judicial Authority  has already requested indictment, and the position of the other seven is still under consideration.

The investigations were started in September 2022, a following an extortion incident related to drug dealing occurred in a bar in Montalto di Castro, a damage to a forty-year-old local man. Despite the same victim, perhaps due to fear of the criminal depth of his attackers, had not collaborated with the Carabinieri, a complex investigative activity was launched – coordinated and directed by the Public Prosecutor's Office of Civitavecchia and supported by technical activities – which made it possible to discover that it was not a simple settling of scores, contextualized in local petty crime, but the tip of an iceberg with illegal entanglements of a very different level at its base.

Thanks to months of incessant work, the military managed to uncover real drug trafficking, especially marijuana and its derivatives (in this case Kief), reconstructing the organization's production chain, based in Sardinia, where the drugs were grown and stored, ready to be placed in the drug dealing areas of the regions of Lazio, Campania and Emilia-Romagna.

The quantities of drugs intercepted, mainly like marijuana and kief” as mentioned, they were remarkable, for a reconstructed total of over two and a half tons.

The criminals had developed various techniques of shipping methods from the island "to the continent", sometimes making use of regular shipping services operating throughout the country, unaware of the contents they were delivering; on several occasions during these deliveries, both on the coast and in Sardinia, by the military were huge seizures were carried out, exceeding one quintal of drugs.

During the investigation, no. were arrested. 5 people in flagrante delicto in title e seized: 2 quintals of “kief”; 34kg. of marijuana; 76 gr. of hashish; 40 gr. of cocaine, all for one commercial value once placed on the clandestine market estimated at over 500.000 Euros.

The operation carried out represents an important result in the daily and incessant work of preventing and combating crime and a strong and incisive response to the security needs of many honest citizens.
