Taranto, a 57-year-old convicted felon from Taranto, last May, was caught in the act while in the very early hours of the morning, after breaking the glass of a parked car, he stole from inside the passenger compartment.
The police surprised him and stopped him in the neighboring streets of the central Via D'Aquino as he tried to escape on a small scooter stolen shortly before.
Numerous burglary weapons were found and seized in his possession, kept inside a pouch that the thief carried over his shoulder.
In the subsequent house search, the police recovered numerous other stolen goods.
The 57-year-old was arrested and, on the basis of what was found in his apartment, the Flying Squad officers began in-depth investigations which made it possible to ascertain that only that night the thief had carried out thefts, damaging 22 cars in a vast area of the city which it went from Viale Virgilio to Viale Magna Grecia.
Through the analysis of the images of the video surveillance systems present in the affected area, the investigators have repeatedly ascertained the presence of the criminal, who was also immortalized during his furtive actions, thus giving substance to their suspicions.
At the end of the investigations, considering the high propensity of the criminal to commit thefts - there are more than 40 complaints against him for crimes against property - the Competent Judicial Authority issued a precautionary custody measure against him in prison.
Measure which was notified to the interested party currently already detained for another reason in Taranto prison.
