Taranto, shooting in the Paolo VI neighbourhood: those responsible arrested.
Following the investigations coordinated by the Public Prosecutor's Office of Taranto, this morning, the Taranto Flying Squad executed the Order for the application of precautionary measures in prison issued by the GIP at the Ordinary Court of Taranto against the three alleged perpetrators of the shooting that took place on the morning of February 1st in the Paolo VI neighborhood and against a fourth person held responsible for having facilitated the escape of two of the three perpetrators.
In the late morning of February 1, 2022, "113" sequentially issued multiple reports relating to a "firefight" that occurred in the Paolo VI neighborhood in Taranto.
Several State Police crews converged on the reported location and, after a brief chase, they reached a man found on the spot armed with a pistol and arrested him in flagrante delicto for the crimes of resisting PU and illegal possession of an illegal weapon.
In the meantime, other personnel of the Flying Squad, near the place where the shooting took place, noticed, a short distance from each other, two abandoned cars with the doors still open and which they ascertained were in use by two of today's investigated. Inside one of these cars they found a semi-automatic pistol, a revolver - both weapons with partially replenished magazines - and a cartridge case of a different caliber than those present in the two pistols.
The inspection carried out by Scientific Police personnel throughout the affected area allowed the discovery of numerous exploded shells from 3 different weapons.
Immediately, a series of recordings were acquired which allowed us to fully identify one of the participants and reconstruct the dynamics of the events characterized by a very bloody action.
On the basis of these first investigative emergencies, the local Public Prosecutor's Office, having assumed the direction of the investigations, urgently ordered the launch of an impressive technical activity which allowed the acquisition of further and unequivocal elements against the three alleged perpetrators of the shooting and of identify the motive for this firefight in family disagreements between two of the subjects affected by the provision.
On the basis of the overall findings of the investigative activity, the Public Prosecutor's Office of Taranto requested and obtained the application of the aforementioned precautionary measures against the three alleged perpetrators of the shooting (all from Taranto aged 41, 38 and 31), investigated for various reasons for the crimes of attempted murder, kidnapping and illegal carrying of weapons and, against the person arrested immediately after the facts for the crimes of resistance to PU and illegal carrying of weapons, held responsible for the crime referred to in art. 378 cp
In confirmation of the dangerousness of the subjects arrested today and their inclusion in structured criminal contexts, it is highlighted that one of them, on 09/05/2022 was arrested in execution of the OCCC issued by the DDA of Lecce in within the so-called “SUMMA” operation conducted by the Flying Squad of Taranto, as it was held responsible for mafia-style criminal association and association aimed at drug trafficking, while the other two perpetrators of the shooting, respectively on 07/10/2022 and on 06/03/2023, they were arrested by personnel of the same Flying Squad of Taranto, as they were found in possession, in a public place, of clandestine weapons and proceeds of theft.
It is reiterated that the principle of presumption of innocence applies to today's suspects until the final sentence is reached.
