The staff of the Flying Squad of the Grottaglie police station intervened yesterday morning following a report received by the Operations Room of Police Headquarters 113 of an attack with a hammer following an argument.

Intervention by the Carabinieri

The police officers who intervened on the scene immediately noticed a man lying on the pavement with a deep wound on his head and two people, later identified as the wife of the attacked man and another neighbor, who were trying to help him while waiting for his arrival. of healthcare personnel.

The injured man, still alert at the time, told his colleagues that he had been hit in the head by his neighbor following a dispute over condominium problems.

Colleagues reached the alleged attacker in his home, he was still wearing a pair of Bermuda shorts presumably soaked in the neighbor's blood.                                                                                                                                                          

The man told them that he had had a heated argument with his neighbor which later resulted in a dispute as the latter had decided to install the external air conditioner units on the wall of the terrace, which he said belonged to his ex-partner after having tore down a metal fence that separated the properties and had insulted and threatened him.

The aggression

The alleged attacker declared that at that point he lost his mind and after grabbing a pickaxe, he climbed onto the terrace where the external units of the machinery were positioned and uprooted them from the wall.

The neighbor and his wife, together with their eight-year-old son, hearing the loud commotion, also went onto the terrace and, faced with that scene, intervened to try to stop the agitated man, managing to snatch the pickaxe from his hands.

The 67-year-old, feeling, according to him, threatened by the couple, hit his neighbor on the head with the hammer he was holding in his other hand.

The wife subsequently explained to the police that there had been bad blood with the alleged attacker for some time and that several civil court cases were still ongoing.

The woman then specified that the external air conditioner units had been installed on the terrace in the part they owned, while the remaining part, as per the notarial deed, was owned by the 67-year-old's ex-wife, but the latter was annoyed by the fact that the neighbors passed through the part of the land not owned by them to carry out ordinary and extraordinary maintenance work on the two flues and skylights on their side.

Rescue and arrest

The 118 medical personnel who arrived on site transported the injured man to the SS Hospital. Annunziata of Taranto. 

The policemen, there being serious indications of guilt and following the spontaneous admissions of the 67-year-old, with numerous criminal records behind him, took the latter to the offices of the Grottaglie police station for further formalities and transmitted the documents to the Judicial Authority for validation, he was arrested for the alleged crime of aggravated assault and placed under house arrest.
