Syracuse: "high impact" operation in the Mazzarona district, numerous apartments searched. Drugs and explosives found.

A new "high impact" police operation has recently concluded which is part of the extraordinary territorial control plan strongly desired by the Prefecture of Syracuse and which involves all the local police forces.

The Provincial Committee for Public Order and Security, chaired by the Prefect Raffaela Moscarella, has in fact relaunched the joint commitment of the police forces as an effective tool for combating widespread crime with particular regard to combating the phenomenon of shop of narcotics and possession of weapons.

The soldiers of the Carabinieri, Guardia di Finanza and agents of the State Police carried out, like last February 2, a new service in the city, focusing the spotlight on a “widespread” drug dealing square spread across several apartments on Largo Luciano Russo.

The drug dealing square was protected by a sophisticated video surveillance system used by the pushers to keep the entire area affected by the drug dealing under observation through numerous cameras placed on the roof and under the balconies of some homes and even a Molosser dog placed on the terrace to thwart the work of the police.

In detail, the Carabinieri, Financial Police and Policemen, assisted by their respective canine units, searched various apartments and overall found 426 grams of cocaine e crack, 80 of hashish, 200 of marijuana, partly already divided into pre-packaged doses, packaging and weighing material, in addition to the sum of 535 euros believed to be drug dealing proceeds. Furthermore, during the activity no. 11 sticks of explosives, which were taken over by the bomb squad of the Catania State Police who certified the deadly nature of the devices.

During the operations, two 27-year-olds of the same age and a 44-year-old were arrested, all with previous of police.

All the material has been seized and the narcotic will be subjected to laboratory tests.

The dog was entrusted to the veterinarians of the Syracuse ASP because it appeared to be in a clear state of malnutrition.

All those arrested, after the formalities, were associated at the "Cavadonna" prison in Syracuse, as ordered by the Aretusea judicial authority.

The operations ad “high impact”, replicated periodically, are demonstrating the importance of a synergistic approach to the topic of security, through inter-force interventions aimed at combating different forms of illegality.
