Syracuse, Carabinieri operations on drug dealing squares: 4 arrests and 2 complaints
Syracuse, After the execution of the vast Algiers operation, which took place on 3 March 2021, the soldiers of the Investigative Unit of the Siracusa Carabinieri Provincial Command directed their attention to the so-called drug dealing square in the Santa Lucia area of the city of Syracuse, carrying out operations there in recent days other targeted anti-drug services. The activities once again made use of the in-depth knowledge of the territory and of the specific criminal dynamics, based on the use of traditional investigative techniques such as shadowing and observation services of subjects known to the police.
Two particularly important police operations were conducted in just a few days and ended with the reporting of 6 people, 4 of whom were arrested, and with the seizure of clandestine weapons and large quantities of narcotics.
The most important activity was carried out in via Enna during the night between Monday 22nd and Tuesday 23rd March, and also saw the support of a team of the Fire Brigade.
The Carabinieri went for a check to the home of ASSENZA Gianclaudio, a known criminal already under house arrest. Once inside, the operators clearly perceived a strong smell of cannabis coming from the apartment opposite the offender's home. Although this apartment was uninhabited and apparently the subject of unfinished renovation work, it was strangely closed by a sturdy metal door and from inside came noises and soft voices, which became excited as soon as the Carabinieri from outside ordered them to leave. open the door immediately for a search. Immediately afterwards, smoke began to come out of the house in question with a strong smell of marijuana and burnt plastic. Therefore fearing that the unknown persons were burning narcotics to make traces of crime disappear, thanks also to the support of a team of the Fire Brigade. The Carabinieri promptly intervened and knocked down the entrance door, surprising three people inside the apartment and finding 4 pistols with abraded serial number, 24 cal. bullets. 7,65, approximately 50 grams of semi-burnt cocaine and over 130 grams of marijuana already divided into 40 doses ready to be sold at retail. A picture as disturbing as it is clear, which revealed how the two apartments were used by the four subjects in question as a drug dealing base:
both in the uninhabited premises and in the home of ASSENZA Gianclaudio, notes relating to the activity of drug dealing, cash believed to be the proceeds of illicit activity as well as various material suitable for cutting and packaging drugs were found, and in that of ASSENZA it was even seized a mega-screen connected to a sophisticated video surveillance system which gave him the opportunity to control movements outside his home.
The most alarming aspect, however, had yet to emerge: the subsequent investigations made it possible to ascertain that the uninhabited premises used for storing drugs by the 4 subjects involved had been occupied without the consent of the legitimate owners, who had in fact been who had long been deprived of the enjoyment of their property and unable to access it as the group had taken possession of it by affixing the sturdy door knocked down by the Carabinieri during the activity and connecting electricity to it through a derivation of the meter of ABSENCE's apartment.
At the end of the operations the 4 subjects were arrested for concurrent possession of clandestine weapons and narcotic substances: while the three accomplices (GF cl. 1993, VC cl. 1962 and QG cl. 1988) were taken to their homes, where they were subjected to house arrest, ASSENZA was transferred to the Cavadonna prison in Syracuse.
The Borgata area is therefore confirmed as a neighborhood affected by drug trafficking, as has emerged several times in recent circumstances, the latest of which a few days ago when two other subjects were reported at large by the Carabinieri for detention for the purpose of drug dealing of narcotic substances, with the seizure of approximately g. 250 of cocaine. On that occasion the military noticed a person, already known for his police record, stealthily leaving a private club that should have been closed due to the current restrictions resulting from the anti-covid legislation. Suspicious of his movements, the Carabinieri proceeded to check whether the club was open illegally, but they soon focused their attention on other aspects when the man began to show unjustified signs of agitation, claiming not to be responsible for anything the soldiers had found inside the premises. In fact, a meticulous search of the club shortly afterwards led to the discovery of an envelope containing approximately 250 grams of cocaine hidden in a crevice in the attic. The owner of the club, who arrived on site shortly afterwards, reported that the premises had been closed for some time due to the restrictions relating to the "orange zone" and that therefore he too did not recognize the paternity of the narcotic. At the end of the operations, the Carabinieri, after having seized the narcotic - worth around €13.000 - still reported both of them free since, as things stood, they were the only holders of the access keys to the private club.
