Scicli: held hostage for a drug debt, he is freed by the Carabinieri special forces.

The investigations conducted by the Carabinieri of the Ragusa Investigative Unit and the Modica Company following the events that occurred on the evening of Thursday 20 June in Scicli, during which two rival gangs clashed in the Jungi neighbourhood with two gunshots being fired, have allowed us to discover how the reason for the dispute was linked to the failure to pay for a shipment of drugs.

The military personnel of the Arma, in fact, have ascertained that among the group composed of young twenty-year-olds of Modica and Sciclitan origin there were two boys who had managed to get some peers from Syracuse to hand over just under 4 kg of hashish without paying them. the amount due, quantifiable as approximately €15.000,00, thus provoking a violent retaliation from the Syracusan gang.

The latter, having arrived in Scicli, intercepted the opposing gang and, in addition to shooting at the members of the local group, managed to kidnap one of them. The investigations carried out by the Carabinieri, in the immediate circumstances, made it possible to identify one of those responsible for the undue possession of the significant quantity of the narcotic, identified as a twenty-year-old resident in Modica, of North African origins, who was therefore arrested having had the possession of approximately 4 kg. of hashish, recovered during the activities and subjected to seizure.

The intense investigations that continued throughout the day on Friday 21st allowed, thanks also to high-profile technical equipment, to identify the place where the kidnapped subject, identified as a 19-year-old resident of Modica, also of North African origins, could have been taken, namely a council house near Piazza Santa Lucia in Syracuse, with the aim of inducing his associates to return the drugs they had taken possession of or to pay the amount of their commercial value.

Given the dangerousness of the individuals implicated in the affair, which had already shown that they could be in possession of weapons and be able to use them, and considering the critical nature of an intervention in a densely populated urban environment, the Carabinieri Special Intervention Group based in Livorno was activated for the delicate operation of freeing the kidnapped individual.

During the night between Saturday and Sunday, the Carabinieri of the Carabinieri GIS, with the support of the Catania First Response Units, personnel from the Sigonella Helicopter Squadron and the territorial component of the Ragusa and Siracusa military, therefore broke into the house in the center of Siracusa, allowing the immediate release of the hostage and the arrest of a minor from Siracusa, close to coming of age, who under threat, also thanks to the availability of a weapon, had held the 19-year-old from Modica against his will.

The young kidnapped man, who at the time of his release appeared to be in good general health, was nevertheless entrusted to the medical care of the health personnel at the Umberto I hospital in Syracuse because he had a wound to his right shoulder inflicted by his kidnappers on the evening of the clash between the two gangs in Scicli.
