The community of Costa Volpino is shocked by the brutal murder of Sara Centelleghe, 18, massacred in her home on Friday night. The killer, Jashan Deep Badhan, a 19-year-old boy of Indian origin and neighbor of the victim, confessed to the atrocious act, although he was unable to explain the reasons for such violence. The investigations, conducted by the public prosecutor and the preliminary investigations judge, highlighted the ferocity of the crime, bringing to light horrifying details.
The crime
Sara, a student who was about to turn 19, was in her apartment on the third floor of a condominium in Costa Volpino, a small town on the shores of Lake Iseo. That evening, a friend of hers had come to visit her for a study evening, but shortly after saying goodbye to her friend and returning home alone, she was joined by Badhan. According to what emerged, the young man had inflicted a series of blows on the girl with a pair of scissors, leaving her dying in a pool of blood. Although initially there were rumors of around ten stab wounds, subsequent investigations revealed that the blows had been as many as thirty.
Jashan Deep Badhan's confession
Badhan, arrested on charges of murder, admitted his guilt before Judge Alessia Solombrino, claiming that he could not understand the reasons that led him to commit such a violent act. His lawyer, Fausto Micheli, described his client as remorseful and deeply shaken: "He cannot understand what he did," the lawyer said, "he is very saddened and tried." Despite his confession, Badhan was unable to clarify the motive for the crime, revealing a possible lack of awareness or control of his actions at the time of the attack. The boy was subsequently admitted to the Papa Giovanni XXIII hospital in Bergamo to monitor his psychological state and prevent any self-harm.
The developments of the investigation and the traces of the murder
The investigation started from a revealing element: a wound on Badhan's right hand, which the carabinieri had noticed during the interrogation. The wound aroused suspicions, as the young man tried to hide it from the soldiers. Once discovered, he was taken to the hospital and then transferred to prison, where he finally confessed. The analysis of Badhan's and Sara's friend's cell phones further clarified the dynamics of the evening: it seems that Badhan had planned to meet Sara's friend, but that the two had missed each other by chance, confusing the stairs and the elevator in an attempt to reach the girl's apartment. Sara's murder could have arisen precisely from this confused situation, although the motive has not yet been fully clarified.
Sara's father's testimony and the urgency of a change
Sara Centelleghe's death has left a deep wound in her family. Her father, Vittorio Centelleghe, expressed uncontainable pain and anger, asking for justice and emphasizing the need for a change of mentality in society.
Hypotheses and future prospects
The investigation continues to search for a possible motive that could shed light on Badhan's inexplicable relentlessness towards Sara. The prosecutor's accusation focuses on the concept of "cruelty" and could lead to a toughening of the charges against the young man. The question of the psychological support that Badhan may need, given his alleged inability to explain or understand his actions, also remains open.
The murder of Sara Centelleghe is not only a tragedy for a family, but a tragic reflection on the frequent, absurd violence that young women continue to suffer. At a time when prompt and severe justice is called for, the community is rallying around the Centelleghe family, sharing the same cry of pain as Sara's father, and calling for action that can prevent other senseless deaths.
