Santo Stefano di Camastra (Messina), throws a rudimentary explosive device against the Carabinieri: 22-year-old arrested

He threw a rudimentary explosive device at a Carabinieri car just as two soldiers were boarding. The explosion, by chance, did not reach the Carabinieri directly, but a few drops of hydrochloric acid, an explosive and highly toxic mixture contained in the rudimentary device, they took the clothes of one of the two, damaging the company car.

The incredible episode occurred on Wednesday afternoon in the city of ceramics. The young man, a 22-year-old local, already known to the Police Force, was immediately identified by the soldiers of the Carabinieri Company of Santo Stefano di Camastra, present at the time of the events who, by viewing the images recorded by video surveillance cameras and the knowledge of subjects of operational interest who gravitate in the territory, immediately arrested, in flagrante delicto, the person responsible for the crime on charges of public intimidation with the use of weapons, manufacturing or possession of explosive materials, damage and for violations of gun control.

On the matter, il Prosecutor of the Republic of Patti (Messina) Angelo Vittorio Cavallo and the Deputy Prosecutor Giovanna Lombardo, in agreement with the Carabinieri Station of Santo Stefano di Camastra, are carrying out in-depth investigations in order to understand the reasons for the insane gesture, which could have had far more serious consequences.

It is not excludedat the moment, none investigative hypotheses including participation in a "challenge", i.e. a trend that rages on the web, which often puts the lives of young protagonists and public safety at risk.

The investigative activity carried out immediately made it possible to ascertain that the 22 year old had taken steps to resume the phases of his conduct from the moment of launch of the rudimentary device and its explosion, probably with the aim of making it public via the web and acquiring consensus.

According to the reconstruction, the 22 year old, returned to Santo Stefano di Camastra after a short period spent voluntarily in a therapeutic community in the Municipality of Amelia (Terni), he positioned himself near the local Carabinieri Company and, after having prepared the explosive mixture on site, mixing hydrochloric acid and tin foil inside a plastic bottle, together with a primer, it threw the previously packaged mixture towards the service car, causing a powerful explosion that occurred a very short distance from the soldiers who were boarding of the company car, but fortunately remained unharmed.

The young man instead immediately fled, asking for a lift from a passing motorist moving away from the places, but the readiness of the soldiers involved, who were also joined by other soldiers in service, allowed his immediate identification e, once found at his home, where he had found refuge and had already disposed of the clothes he had worn and the substances he had used, he was subjected to a personal and local search, which allowed find other miscellaneous material for the packaging of homemade bombs, even more powerful than the one used.

In particular, the clothes worn were found, the container of hydrochloric acid, various chemical formulas and a firecracker made with paper tape. Cell phone inspection, also allowed us to ascertain that the boy had been searching on the web for some time, the methods of packaging such ordnance.

It is clear that the act was perpetrated against the military was the conclusion of a articulated and premeditated criminal plan, probably with the intention to locate and hit other targets, and repeat the insane act, jeopardizing public safety.

Just think that the arrested person, before the insane gesture he photographed himself with the police station clearly visible behind him.

What was found was seized and sent to the RIS Carabinieri of Messina for laboratory analysis.

The arrested person is confined in the Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto prison at the disposal of the Judicial Authority.
