Salerno, "Red threads" operation: a gang specialized in copper theft discovered in Cilento

Salerno, at first light in the morning, the Carabinieri of the Agropoli Company, with the support of the territorially competent units of the Carabinieri, carried out an arrest order for a crime suspect, issued by the Public Prosecutor's Office at the Court of Vallo della Lucania, against 8 subjects, investigated for the crimes p. and p. from the articles 624 – 625 criminal code, in the territory of the province of Caserta. The investigation, originating from some episodes of theft committed in Castellabate, made it possible to reconstruct the existence of a criminal group, permanently dedicated to carrying out thefts in the Cilento area. A symptom of the high level of danger of the subjects is the innumerable series of predatory crimes committed in just a few months of activity, all with very precise targets based on the massive presence of copper: the Alento River Oasis, factories, electrical substations, operational headquarters of companies , telephone exchanges, are some of the main objectives, which were secondarily combined with homes, warehouses and boat garages. All for an estimated turnover of around 150.000 euros of stolen goods, stolen in the various episodes that occurred in San Giovanni a Piro (SA), Castellabate (SA), Prignano Cilento (SA) and Cicerale (SA), Lusciano (CE), Acerra (NA), Montoro (AV). The investigation activity, concentrated over the space of a few months, also made it possible to highlight how the criminal group, concentrated on the theft of copper, did not disdain other kinds of stolen goods, even robbing some foodstuffs.
