The investigation arose from a complaint presented by a 79-year-old elderly woman, victim of the scam, who declared to the police that the way in which she had been defrauded was that of the phone call from the fake nephew in difficulty who needed a huge sum of money, followed by the subsequent call from the "master" of the post office asking the lady to send her husband to the post office to collect two registered letters. During her husband's absence, the fake nephew had contacted her wife asking her to prepare the money and possibly the gold that she had in her house. Then the elusive director had warned her that a courier appointed by him to collect the goods would soon arrive at her home, who in fact, shortly after, showed up at the entrance and had several gold jewels delivered to him. , 450 euros in cash and an ATM card with related pin code, with which the accomplice had fraudulently withdrawn 150 euros.
Following the scrupulous investigations carried out by the investigators in via Casalmonferrato, it was possible to trace a series of shots carried out by the 3 subjects in the same way. Thanks to the examination of the images acquired by the video surveillance systems present at the various credit institutions involved, as well as the declarations made by the victims at the time of reporting and the geolocation of the telephone numbers used by the subjects, it was possible to trace the alleged perpetrators of these hateful crimes. crimes. The police, therefore, in light of the evidence collected throughout the investigation period, managed to reconstruct the story and trace their identity, bringing them to justice.
The investigating prosecutor's office, in light of said evidence, asked the Judge for Preliminary Investigations of the Court of Rome to issue a precautionary measure against the suspects. The GIP accepted this request and issued the precautionary measure of detention in prison for one of the accomplices and house arrest for the other two against the 3.
In any case, all the suspects are to be considered presumed innocent, in consideration of the current phase of the proceedings, i.e. that of the preliminary investigations, until a definitive finding of guilt with an irrevocable sentence.
