Rome, yesterday staff of the Investigation Team of the Viminale police station, directed by Mauro Baroni, executed the order for the application of precautionary measures issued by the GIP at the Court of Rome at the request of the Property Crimes Pool, against AF aged 21, AD aged 19, PD aged 20 and TV aged 19 as they were held responsible jointly with each other and with 4 other subjects under the age of 18, against whom, following an order from the Juvenile Court of Rome, the precautionary measure of staying at home was applied, following the commission of 3 robberies between 23 and 30 January.
The investigation activity was started following a robbery perpetrated last January 30th in the premises of the Termini subway stop, against two young minors, aged 15 and 17 respectively, who, after having been surrounded by the group of aforementioned young people who , like the two victims, they got on the "Flaminio" subway stop, punched one of them in the face and, threatening to pull out a knife, forced them to give up their possessions, including money and a mobile phone.
On the basis of the elements provided by the victims, images recorded by the video surveillance cameras present inside the Rome Termini underground station were acquired which confirmed the facts as reported by the two young people, who were filmed while they were being robbed and beaten by a group of 8 young people who fled, climbing the stairs to the surface.
From the analysis of the telephone traffic of the mobile phone taken from one of the minors, it emerged that the same device had been used shortly after the robbery by AF who, taken to the police station, admitted his responsibilities regarding his participation in the robbery. Clothes worn in the robbery were found by the police in his home.
From the memory of the mobile phone used by AF, the investigators then detected the existence of a chat on the WhatsApp platform called "The trio that rocks", which contained messages clearly alluding to the robbery reported by the two young minors, as well as to previous robberies committed to the detriment of other peers.
From the tenor of the conversations, it was possible to deduce the existence of a group made up of young individuals, some of whom were minors, who made use of the strength of the number of members to commit robberies and acts of bullying, generating fear and inability in the victims to defend oneself. In fact, it was ascertained that the criminal group, by surrounding the victim in question, did not allow him to defend himself, allowing the gang to easily take possession of his wallet, designer shoes or mobile phone.
Further investigations made it possible to trace the identity of the other young people, including 4 minors, who had participated in the robbery reported at the Viminale police station.
From the content of the conversations detected on the chat, the investigators traced back to two other robberies committed by the group of young people under investigation, in relation to a sales assistant on 30 January in Piazza del Popolo during which the victim was robbed of a hat and a gold chain, the other, in the same area, on January 23; in this case the victim, after being kicked and punched, was robbed of his shoes.
Items of clothing worn by the gang during the robbery committed at the Termini subway stop, as well as the items of clothing and shoes stolen in previous robberies were found during searches delegated by the Public Prosecutor's Office.
Further evidence came from the examination of the seized mobile phones in whose conversations on social networks the suspects boasted of what they had done, effectively claiming paternity.
Having ascertained the responsibilities and the role played by all the subjects in relation to the robbery committed in the Rome Termini underground station and in relation to the other two robberies, also with photographic identifications made by the injured parties, the GIP at the Juvenile Court issued 4 precautionary custody orders against the 4 minors responsible for the robberies, applying the precautionary measure of staying at home against them, carried out by the officers on 15.03.2021.
On 12 April the GIP at the Ordinary Court of Rome then provided for the precautionary measure of house arrest for the first three young adults and for the other young person, the precautionary measure of the obligation to report to the Judicial Police, carried out last 13th by the officers.
Investigations are still underway to ascertain the commission of other crimes by the baby gang which occurred starting from December 2020.
