Rome: Widespread checks, 300 people identified and one arrested for drug dealing

Security and fight against any disturbances to public order and safety linked to the phenomenon of “movida”, drug dealing and degradationo: these are the objectives of the extraordinary territorial control operation carried out by the State Police over the weekend in nightlife areas of San Lorenzo and Trastevere.

The officers from the San Lorenzo and Trastevere police stations were in action, together with officers from the Rome Capital Local Police and personnel from AMA and the electricity distribution company ARETI, who combed through the neighbourhoods most frequented by young people and tourists at the weekend. In total, more than 300 people and 200 vehicles were checked.

During the operation, a thirty-seven-year-old was targeted by the police and found in possession of more than 17 doses of drugs including hashish and cocaine. The search, later extended to his home, allowed the police to find other cutting substances, a precision scale and material useful for packaging the doses, as well as approximately 900 euros in cash. The man ended up in handcuffs and the judicial authorities then the arrest was validated against him.

Over 200 administrative fines were still issued for violations of the highway code. The State Police are also targeting commercial activities and slot machine halls: 19 public establishments subjected to administrative checks. Thanks to the AMA's contribution, the places involved in the service have been progressively subjected to interventions to restore the urban decorum, with the removal of waste, as well as with the hydro-cleaning of the sites.

Finally, with a technician from the “Areti” company, faults and malfunctions of public lighting were identified and duly reported in both districts.
