They are 295 the people checked, 24 the sensitive sites inspected, 55 Polfer operators involved: this is the outcome of the seventh day of the year called operation "Red Gold” dedicated, at a national level, to Countering the phenomenon of copper thefts in the railway sector.

Starting from the analysis of these crimes in Liguria, the extraordinary checks of September 18 were directed towards the railway sections where criminal episodes sometimes occurred, as well as on the road and towards 11 scrapping and treatment centres for special and metal waste located throughout the region, with the aim of intercept and interrupt the illegal supply chain linked to the so-called “Red Gold”.

In particular, in the collection centers, the possession of the authorizations to carry out the activity and to treat the materials, the compliance with the environmental regulations and the traceability of the treated metals were verified, without finding any critical issues.

The systematic prevention and repression activity carried out over the years by the Railway Police has effectively countered the phenomenon of copper thefts along the railway network in operation, avoiding unpleasant inconveniences to travellers and in particular to the numerous "commuter" passengers potentially involved.
