Novara: a woman throws herself into the canal and is saved by the State Police.

The will of 7 October 2023 the State Police of Novara, specifically the Flying Squad of the Police Headquarters, intervened at the end of Corso della Vittoria for a heated argument between two citizens who, following a road accident, were unable to reach an agreement among themselves.

While we were trying to reconstruct what had happened, a voice was heard calling for help and therefore all those present approached the nearby Cavour canal, inside which they noticed in the darkness a woman in the water at the mercy of the current and close to drowning as she was incapable of keep your head above water.

The woman submerged herself completely, only to re-emerge with difficulty on the other side of the bridge in the area of ​​Via Unità d'Italia. At this point, while the officers took off their belts to provide assistance, i two citizens, without communicating with each other but with perfect coordination and speed, they climbed over the railing and managed tograb the woman for a foot and an arm respectively, blocking the strong effect of the current. Given the force of the water and the woman's large build, however, they were unable to pull her out of the water until the police arrived with a rope.

Thanks to the tenacity of the two citizens, who always maintained their hold on the woman, she was secured with the rope and dragged to the shore. At this point the woman, in a semi-unconscious state, reported that she had made the gesture to deliberately end her own life. Therefore a 118 crew intervened and proceeded to transport the woman to hospital.
Un heartfelt thanks also go to these two men, born in 1961 and 2002 respectively, who, immediately putting aside the misunderstandings, with an extraordinary decision made a fundamental contribution to saving a human life together with the police officers.
