Naples, "H1" operation: attack on the gang that stole tobacco and robbed ATMs, 18 arrests
Naples, this morning the State Police, following a detailed investigation carried out by the agents of the Judicial Police Team of the "Campania-Basilicata" Traffic Police Department and coordinated by the Public Prosecutor's Office of Naples, executed a precautionary order issued by the investigating judge of Naples against 18 people (10 of whom are in prison, 5 under house arrest and 3 under mandatory residence) seriously suspected in various capacities of crimes of criminal association, robbery of vans transporting Monopoli tobacco of State and theft of ATM-Bancomat.
The investigative activities have ascertained the existence of a particularly organized group specialized in the commission of armed robberies against hauliers - with kidnapping - which over time has also specialized in thefts against credit institutions with the technique of uprooting of the "ATM-ATM" counter from the location where they were located, uprooting which occurred through the use of a "hydraulic crane" with subsequent loading of the ATMs onto trucks or vans present on site.
The in-depth investigative activity has thus made it possible to shed light on at least 15 criminal episodes, in 9 months, managing, through the use of wiretaps and shadowing activities, to verify the methods of identifying the targets to be hit, the methods of organization and the technique used to coordinate during individual events.
The investigation activity also made it possible to verify the availability, within the group, of cars and heavy vehicles - of the hydraulic crane type -, radio transmission equipment, sophisticated technologies for interception and/or abatement of radio signals.
Finally, it was ascertained that the group had sophisticated technical equipment capable of proceeding with the "remediation" of the cars used for the illicit activities, which, through sophisticated scanners, made it possible to identify the possible presence of devices for the interception of communications placed inside vehicles by the police.
The info-investigative activity that began on 10 July 2018 ended in January 2019 with yet another "coup" perpetrated by the gang against warehouses managed by Chinese citizens.
