Naples, Capodichino airport: investigation discovers theft of luggage and "duty free" items

Naples, This morning the agents of the Flying Squad and the Air Border Police of Naples-Capodichino, following an investigation coordinated by the Public Prosecutor's Office at the Court of Naples, executed a search decree against 13 people employed in various capacities in service companies operating in the airport sector; During the activity, several items that were the subject of previous complaints were found.

The investigation activities were started following the presentation of approximately 70 reports of baggage theft by passengers arriving and departing at the Neapolitan airport and relating to the years 2019 and 2020.

The thefts, mainly carried out inside the holds of "low cost" flight aircraft, involved, in particular, the so-called "misplaced" baggage, i.e. those bags initially declared as "hand" and which, for reasons of company policy aircraft (for example filling the overhead bins), in extremis and during boarding operations they were sent to the holds, thus making it difficult for the passenger to recover valuable objects previously stored there.

Furthermore, this morning, personnel from the Border Police of Naples Capodichino, following a detailed investigation, implemented the precautionary measure of the obligation to stay in relation to an employee of the commercial business called "Duty Free" located in the area. departures from the Neapolitan airport.

Following numerous reports of theft presented by the manager of the business, an investigation was launched, coordinated by the Public Prosecutor's Office at the Court of Naples, which made it possible to identify and identify the perpetrator in a sales employee who, evading controls and taking advantage of his position, he stole the goods from the shop and then resold them to other airport employees.

During the aforementioned activity, two passengers and 3 airport employees were also reported, believed to be the perpetrators of some occasional thefts against the aforementioned Duty Free.

The thefts, perpetrated in the period between March and December 2020 and involving high-value perfumes or wines, amounted to approximately 30.000 euros.
