Naples, pre-trial detention in prison for father and son for attempted extortion aggravated by mafia methods
By delegation of the Public Prosecutor of Naples, it is communicated that, this morning, the State Police executed a precautionary custody order in prison, issued by the GIP of the Court of Naples at the request of the local District Anti-Mafia Directorate, against two subjects – father and son originally from the Torretta di Mergellina area – considered seriously suspected of the crime of attempted extortion aggravated by mafia methods.
The investigations, conducted by the agents of the Naples Flying Squad, have allowed us to ascertain that the recipients of the restrictive measure allegedly made extortionate demands against entrepreneurs who managed the moorings for pleasure boats at the Mergellina docks.

In particular, the son – presenting himself to the victims as an emissary of his father, currently in prison but well known as a leading figure in organised crime in the area – had threatened them, demanding from them the exclusive management of some “buoys” for mooring and, in certain circumstances, even the hiring of compliant personnel.
In some cases, however, the monopolistic management of some vessels moored in the victims' buoy fields and intended for rental was also claimed.
In recent years, one of the two recipients had risen to the honours of the news, even nationally, for his participation in anti-Camorra demonstrations during which he had declared that he dissociated himself from organised crime circles, also denying the figure of his father, a member of the Camorra.
