Modena, driving without licenses, and failure to comply with legal restrictions on driving and rest by truck drivers: over 5.000 euros in fines for violation of the highway code.

Someone was driving with problems with the braking system and suspension, posing a danger to themselves and other cars on the road. Then there were those who had tried to evade the legal constraints on driving and rest times and those who even drove without a license as it had been revoked for two years. These are the main results of the checks on heavy vehicles, mainly coming from foreign countries, carried out on Wednesday 24 May by the local police of Modena.

Overall, 17 checks were carried out on trucks arriving, mostly from Eastern Europe (Bulgaria, Macedonia, Romania and Hungary) but also from France and Spain; 14 administrative violations were contested, for a total of fines exceeding 5 thousand euros. Of these violations, ten concern failure to respect driving and rest times.

The checks, which are repeated on a monthly basis, fall within the scope of the initiatives for road safety on the city's motorway "junction", characterized on a daily basis, due to the nearby Campogalliano customs and an economic fabric devoted to exports, by a presence significant number of trucks from international carriers. The checks were carried out by eight operators in via Cavani, at the intersection with via Marotta: for each car the checks took no less than 40 minutes; in some cases even an hour.

Among the violations, those of a driver driving a truck on behalf of a French company stand out: the man, 40 years old and resident in France, was driving without a license as it had been revoked for two years. Furthermore, the driver did not have with him the registration certificate of the semi-trailer which, moreover, had a noticeable air leak in the suspension system. The driver therefore received a total of over 3.600 euros in fines, both for altering the technical characteristics of the car (art. 79 of the Highway Code) and, indeed, for driving with a revoked license (art. 116) and the absence of an identification document. circulation (art. 180). Once restored, the vehicle was entrusted to another driver of the company for the return to France.

Another truck was also stopped due to an air leak in the braking system of the semi-trailer: the malfunction caused it to skid noticeably sideways. In this case, the truck was driven by a 35-year-old Romanian in the service of an Italian company: for him a total fine of almost 600 euros which responds, in addition to the technical alterations to the vehicle, also to the exceeding of driving and daily rest times (art. 174).

Modena, guida senza patenti, irregolarità negli impianti dei mezzi, mancato rispetto dei vincoli di legge di guida e riposo da parte degli autisti di tir: oltre 5.000 euro di sanzioni per violazione del codice della strada.
