“El Mayo”, Mexico's most wanted drug boss, arrested.
The co-founder of the Sinaloa Cartel, Ismael Zambada Garcia, and Joaquin Guzman Lopez, the son of El Chapo, were arrested by US authorities. Garcia is known as “El Mayo”.
The two are under American custody in the United States after being arrested in Step, Texas.
«El Mayo and Guzman Lopez join the long list of Sinaloa cartel leaders the Department of Justice holds responsible» to be at the helm of «one of the most powerful and willing drug trafficking organizations in the world», said the US Secretary of Justice merrick garland.
"The fentanyl It is the deadliest drug to ever threaten the country and the Department of Justice will not rest until every cartel leader responsible for poisoning communities is stopped.", he added Garland.
El Mayo founded the Sinaloa Cartel together with El Chapo but, unlike him, he had never been in prison. Guzman Lopez is the son of El Chapo and is at the top of the cartel together with his brothers after their father was extradited to the United States in 2017.
Ismael 'Mayo' Zambada, the co-founder of the Sinaloa Cartel is one of Mexico's most wanted drug traffickers, who has eluded justice for decades.
Despite his efforts to keep a low profile, the elusive boss was one of the main targets of the Drug Enforcement Administration US.
The United States had offered one $15 million reward for information leading to Zambada's arrest, accused of trafficking cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine and fentanyl. The bounty also exceeded the $10 million offered for Nemesio “El Mencho” Oseguera, head of the rival Jalisco New Generation cartel.
