On the morning of July 25th, following the completion of the scheduled investigations, i Carabinieri of the Borgo Giannotti station (Lucca) they reported in a state of freedom to the Judicial Authority a 22 year old of Albanian origins, resident in Capannori, for the crime of failure to assist. According to the reconstruction made by the Carabinieri, the young man at 00:35 on 24 July, while he was traveling at high speed along Via Pesciatina aboard a black BMW, hit a 20-year-old cyclist from Bangladesh, who fell disastrously onto the asphalt, to continue the march without stopping to provide assistance. The scene was witnessed by a Deputy Brigadier of the Carabinieri serving at the Radiomobile Section of Lucca, who was on his way to work in his car and who was right behind the BMW.

Considering that the driver of the hit vehicle was running away and that the poor cyclist had already been rescued by some passers-by, the Army soldiers chased the fugitive managing to make it stop on Via dell'Ave Maria, before reaching Via Vecchia Pesciatina. After identifying him, he handed the 22-year-old over to colleagues from the Borgo Giannotti station who intervened on site, who they immediately confiscated the young man's driving license, who now also risks a conviction for failure to provide assistance. The cyclist, however, was helped by the 118 health workers who transported him to the "San Luca" hospital in Lucca, where injuries to his left leg were found, with a prognosis of seven days.
