During the afternoon of Thursday July 27 have reached the Operations Center of the Carabinieri Company of Piombino, via the Single Emergency Number 112, the direct telephone number and through the stations in the area, numerous calls from citizens residents of the municipality of Campiglia Marittima (LI) who reported having been contacted by telephone, by anonymous number, by an unknown person, self-styled lawyer/policeman or member of other police forces who warned them that one of their family members had caused an accident and had been detained in the barracks, as well as to respond promptly to a subsequent call to agree on the payment methods for the release of their loved one.

The people contacted recognized in the story the relative as the victim of an accident and detained by the police force, for whose release it was necessary to pay a lawyer as soon as possible one of those illustrated to them during the meetings organized by the Carabinieri throughout the province to safeguard the most exposed segments of the population, especially the elderly, from the hateful phenomenon of scams. The people who received the calls they fortunately contacted the Operations Center of the Carabinieri Company of Piombino who invited them not to let anyone into the house, not to hand over money or valuables to so-called lawyers and, to reassure them about the fate of their family members, to contact them directly to make sure of the attempted deception.

At the same time, they were deployed throughout the area numerous patrols ready to intervene if some malicious person showed up at a citizen's door. All the numerous scam attempts, more than 10 in a short period of time were thus foiled and no one was a victim of the scam. The intense information campaign of the Carabinieri Provincial Command of Livorno through the information bodies and the numerous meetings organized even in the smallest centers of the province by the soldiers of the Carabinieri Companies in collaboration with local authorities, dioceses and associations, aimed at illustrating examples to the citizens practical for learning to recognize potential scams and reporting any attempted deception to the nearby Carabinieri Station or to 112 NUE, they had the desired effect by making citizens aware and no attempted scam had any consequences.

This is a good occasion to remember that Law enforcement agencies and lawyers do not require payments in cash or valuables for the release of individuals involved in road accidents or other events. If you are contacted, it is necessary call, via mobile phone, 112NUE or one of the Carabinieri operations centers located throughout the province - active 24 hours a day, 24 days a week - and contact your family member directly to check their actual conditions. It is also important to promptly report any suspected fraud, even if only attempted, to allow investigations to begin immediately.

Carabinieri checks continue on food safety and compliance with regulations to protect public health by the Anti-adulteration and Healthcare Unit of Livorno. In particular, the military conducted checks on compliance with the legislation regarding food production and handling by public establishments. Following a check carried out at a well-known bar/restaurant in Livorno, the military found irregularities in the premises where food is handled, i.e. the kitchen and food storage, from a hygienic and sanitary point of view, i.e. previous dirt and residues from previous work on systems and equipment, as well as the widespread presence of insects and other pests in various points of the flooring.

As a result of the activities, one was elevated fine of 2.000 euros to be paid by the sole director of the business, a 56 year old from Livorno, the competent authorities were informed and it was ordered the immediate closure and suspension of the activity by the local ASL, a provision that will remain in force until the irregularities detected are remedied. The checks will continue throughout the provincial territory by the NAS in collaboration with the territorial police to protect public health and food safety.
