Lecce, the activation of a level II shelter for women victims of violence financed with 390 thousand euros of PNRR funds
Councilor Silvia Miglietta: "We will implement further interventions in favor of the autonomy of these women."
Lecce, the activation of a level II shelter for women victims of violence has been financed with 390 thousand euros of PNRR funds.
The Municipality of Lecce has been admitted to funding for the shelter home project for women victims of violence, presented under the PNRR tender addressed to Municipalities for the valorisation of confiscated assets. Financed for the entire requested amount of 390 thousand euros, the project was placed in position 33 out of 242 financed projects.
The project “I start again with myself – From the property confiscated to the shelter for women victims of violence” – the result of the joint work of the Welfare, Public Works and Heritage sectors – provides for the functional recovery and redevelopment of a civil home confiscated from the mafia to be returned to the community with the activation of a shelter home (second level) to strengthen the local network of protection services for women victims of violence, alone or with children, which is in the process of being established, encouraging the start of seed courses -living autonomy.
“I start again with myself” aims to respond to the fact that, unfortunately, it is not always possible for women to regain possession of their home after a complaint or resignation from a first level shelter. To do this, it is necessary to accompany women, taken care of by professional social services, anti-violence centers and first-level shelter homes, on a path to escape violence and recover vital spaces of autonomy and self-determination.
Presented in line with the provisions of the "protection and support" axis of the National Strategic Plan on male violence against women and of the integrated plan of interventions for the prevention and fight against gender violence, adopted by the Puglia Region, the project will allow offer protection and hospitality to adult women with or without sons or daughters, Italian and foreign, who suffer violence, simultaneously welcoming 6 guests into the shelter home.
«The news of this financing – declares the Welfare councilor Silvia Miglietta - it is very important because it strengthens and qualifies the overall system of services responsible for the protection, support and accompaniment of women who have suffered violence and their children who have witnessed the violence or have also suffered forms of mistreatment. In the city we already have an anti-violence center and a first-level shelter. This funding allows us to implement further interventions in favor of the empowerment and autonomy of women victims of violence. I thank my fellow councilors Marco Nuzzaci and Rita Miglietta and their respective sectors for the teamwork that led us to this result."
