An entrepreneur and an Ater manager in handcuffs

Latina, illicit waste trafficking and corruption: 2 arrests.

Corruption and illicit waste trafficking. Two people ended up in handcuffs on these charges: the de facto director of a company which was seized, and a manager of the Ater of Rome.

The precautionary custody order, issued by the investigating judge of the Court of Rome, was carried out by the Latina Police, at the disposal of the Anti-Mafia district directorate of Rome and in collaboration with the Flying Squad of Cosenza.

The provision follows an investigation into a criminal association dedicated to the illicit trafficking of waste, crimes against the environment and fraud against the State, which in 2021 had led to a precautionary custody order in prison and the ban on 10 people from carrying out entrepreneurial activities.

One of the recipients of the precautionary detention order had been subject to preventive seizure of assets worth 3 million euros and he was the de facto director of a company based in Rome, also seized, active in the field of waste disposal.

The new investigative activity made it possible to ascertain how the man would have proceeded, with the complicity of other people under investigation, "to the spillage and burial in unspecified places of special liquid waste", for a total of over 2300 tons, “in order to receive the expected fee for the disposal of such waste at authorized sites”. To do this, hundreds of documents certifying the regularity of the disposal had been falsified.

The same investigation also made it possible to verify a corrupt relationship between the entrepreneur and a manager of the Ater of Rome, who ended up under house arrest today.

The man would receive 8mila euros in cash and a motorcycle for over 23 thousand euros in exchange for a Sal Island (Work progress) from the value of 233mila euros in favor of the company seized in 2021, issued as part of a contract for the provision of inspection, sewer cleaning and maintenance services for properties owned by the Ater of Rome.
