Latina, “Infidus” operation: 2 arrests in Terracina for extortion
The operation called 'Infidus' takes its name from the two 'unfaithful' subjects, both employees of a company in Terracina, who through multiple and continuous actions, taking refuge behind anonymity, were extorting money from their employer.
The two, using 'cover' phones and SIM cards, contacted the victim with the prospect of serious retaliation if he did not give them a first tranche of 40 thousand euros. Furthermore, with typical methods borrowed from the mafia method, they aimed to guarantee 'protection', effectively trying to subject the victim in a systematic way to the request for 'protection money'.
Despite the cunning of the suspects, who had also delivered letters to the door of the victim's house to formulate the extortion requests, the investigators, coordinated by the Deputy Prosecutors Antonio Sgarrella and Claudio De Lazzaro, identified the right investigative lead by preparing traditional services and interceptive activities.
In parallel with the investigative activity, confidential services were guaranteed to protect the victims. The threats formulated by the suspects in fact envisaged serious retaliation to be carried out on the owners of the company and damages which, concomitant with the economic crisis resulting from the pandemic, would have caused its closure.
When the two suspects were now ready for an intimidating and demonstrative action, which would have definitively damaged and terrorized the victim with the burning of some vans, the solid and incontrovertible elements acquired by the investigators allowed the public prosecutors to request and obtain restrictive measures in prison issued against the two suspects by the GIP of the Court of Latina, Dr. Pierpaolo Bortone.
