La Spezia, recovery work on properties confiscated for activities linked to organized crime completed
Work has been completed on two properties confiscated from organized crime which will be aimed at young people and social-related activities. Thanks to the commitment of the Peracchini Administration and a tender from the Liguria Region, a property in via Mazzini was renovated in which it was built a co-working space for young peoplethe people of La Spezia under 35, with 5 workstations, and a property in Piazza Chiodo, which will become an information point for all citizens to be entrusted to the associations.
The Administration acquires properties used for an illicit activity and has been committed since last year to ensuring that the National Agency for the Administration and Destination of Seized and Confiscated Assets from Organized Crime (ANBSC) transferred the assets confiscated from organized crime located in the Municipality of La Spezia, presenting projects for use for social purposes, in order to be able to use them for the benefit of the community and in particular in favor of young people.
In September 2021, the Liguria Region's announcement arrived for the provision of contributions in favor of local authorities to carry out redevelopment interventions on those same assets, which the Municipality of La Spezia was awarded with 50 thousand euros per property for the renovation.
The buildings were in a state of abandonment and a total renovation was carried out, with the installation of new furnishings. The property in viale Mazzini has three coworking stations, a meeting room, two toilets and covers an area of over 60 square metres. The property in Piazza Chiodo, however, will be intended for associations and covers approximately 30 square meters and consists of a single room with an adjoining toilet.
“The recovery of these properties is a result and a very important signal for all citizens – declares the Mayor of La Spezia Pierluigi Peracchini – because it is a tangible sign of the fight against organized crime. Today these spaces will have a new life and will be made available to the community, in particular young people and local associations. The Administration has carried out this recovery project with commitment, the result of a joint commitment between institutions. It is only together that we can build a more just and honest society for future generations."
Councilor Manuela Gagliardi comments on the news as follows: “The Peracchini Administration thus completes the path undertaken, since the beginning of the mandate, of valorising the municipal heritage, with an eye always aimed at the social. In the case of the properties received by the National Agency for Confiscated Assets there was an even more important commitment because the meaning that these assets have is twofold, on the one hand they are removed from organized crime and on the other they are made available to citizens for social and inclusion purposes. Another of the properties we received from the agency in 2022, located in the Kennedy center, was enhanced through leasing and the proceeds were always allocated to social purposes. In thanking the Liguria Region for the contributions received, we hope that in the future other tenders will be activated which will be able to help us carry out new projects"
