Imperia, illegal immigration to France: passer arrested on the Genoa/Ventimiglia route

Imperia, the Traffic Police, in the context of the checks carried out by the State Police in the province of Imperia for the fight against illegal immigration and the supervision of the motorway sections, which have long been affected by frequent episodes of migrants trying to reach French territory on foot by hiding inside trucks headed for France, last December 10th arrested a foreign passeur.

The man, a thirty-six year old, was caught hiding non-EU citizens inside two different heavy vehicles parked at the "Bordighera Nord" service area of ​​the A10 Savona-Ventimiglia motorway, with the intention of gaining entry. illegal in France.

This phenomenon has worsened in recent months, which is why the State Police, upon input from the Prefect of Imperia, is constantly engaged in this area in targeted services coordinated by the local Police Headquarters.

In this context, it is the responsibility of the Traffic Police patrols to carry out frequent passages on the motorway sections and service areas involved on a daily basis in order to contain the frequency of incidents and prevent risks to road safety.

Monitoring the phenomenon made it possible to reconstruct the methods of movement. It frequently happens that in the early hours of the morning groups of foreigners, after having climbed the paths of the hill guided by experts to whom they pay large sums of money, arrive near the motorway guardrail and, after having crossed both carriageways of the motorway, they are put on trailers which set off towards France. While those who manage and accompany the groups recross the road, losing their tracks in the dense vegetation.

In this context, further specific services were organized aimed at identifying the responsible subjects and, on the night of 10 December last, after excellent team work, the Imperia Traffic Police was able to stop and arrest one of these subjects, caught several times cross the motorway carriageways to inspect the parked vehicles in search of any spaces in which to cram the people he had with him.

That evening in particular, 7 of the 15 people all coming from Iran, Iraq and Afghanistan and aged between 16 and 40 were found crammed under the belly of the truck, in a pallet compartment, in a situation of danger to their own safety.

The aforementioned people, having ascertained their good health conditions, were accompanied to the offices of the Imperia Police Headquarters for subsequent checks on their position on the national territory.
