Foggia: the State Police seized 36 kg of illegal fireworks and narcotic substances thanks to a report on "YouPol".

The State Police arrested a man of around 60 years old, caught in the act of illegal possession of explosive material and possession of narcotic substances.

In particular, yesterday, the policemen of the Foggia Flying Squad followed up on the report received via the State Police application "YouPol" to the Operations Room of the Police Headquarters.

The message sent anonymously indicated a possible activity of possession of illegal fireworks inside a building and, from the descriptions provided by the possible person responsible, the house where the sixty-year-old allegedly illegally hid numerous barrels was identified detained and probably destined to be marketed close to the New Year holidays.

With the help of colleagues from the “Northern Puglia” Crime Prevention Department and the Bomb Squad Unit of the Bari Police Headquarters, the officers carried out a search inside the apartment, where 36 kg of homemade explosive material and 20 grams of hashish-type narcotic substance, as well as precision scales and packaging material.

The State Police once again records a positive contribution given by citizens through the use of the YouPol application to combat widespread illegality.

As already recorded in other circumstances, and recently in the case of the identification of groups of children aged between 08 and 13, who on several occasions had thrown stones at the buses of the local public transport company, causing considerable damage and causing of particular concern among the residents of the neighborhood affected by the events, the use of the "YouPol" application has proven to be an effective tool to support the activity of the State Police in this area.

The proceeding is pending in the preliminary investigation phase;

It should be noted that the position of the person involved in the aforementioned police operation is being examined by the Judicial Authority and that he cannot be considered guilty until a final conviction has been pronounced.

This is an opportunity to remember that "New Year's Eve bangers" are potentially dangerous objects, and for this reason it is necessary to use them responsibly and consciously.

Fireworks must be purchased only from authorized retailers, and must display the CE mark, which guarantees their compliance with the safety requirements of current regulations; furthermore, it is important to check whether an ordinance is in place in your municipality that completely prohibits its use.

This year too, the usual advice from our bomb squad is back, indicating how to avoid endangering yourself and others.

Remember that fireworks should be used outdoors, away from potentially flammable objects and possibly away from children. Even a small spark can cause fires and extensive damage to homes.

In detail, here are some specific tips for using pyrotechnic products safely:

· Carefully read the instructions on the packaging of the items you purchase;

· Light fireworks only in conditions of good visibility;

· Never turn them on in the presence of wind;

· Do not leave them unattended;

· In case of malfunction, do not try to turn them back on even after hours but report their presence to the emergency number 113.

It is absolutely forbidden to buy so-called "illegal barrels" or presumed to be so. Homemade fires without the required certificates are dangerous for you and those around you. In fact, it is not possible to predict the charge or the trigger reaction times. Their explosion can also cause very serious injuries.

Finally, special attention should also be paid to our animal friends, especially the four-legged ones who are sensitive to the lights and noises caused by the explosion of pyrotechnics. Avoid leaving them in the garden or in exposed places, never let them be alone, if they are afraid distract them and play with them. In your absence, close the windows tightly, trying to keep the place as safe as possible, hiding any objects with which they could harm themselves and making sure there is no possibility of escape.

By following these simple tips, you can celebrate the arrival of the new year in a safe and fun way, without putting your safety and that of others at risk.
