Corigliano Rossano, Cosenza. Relatives beat a disabled person and the video goes viral: three precautionary measures carried out by the Carabinieri.

On the morning of 10 April 2024, the Carabinieri of the Corigliano Calabro Centro station, dependent on the Territorial Department of Corigliano Rossano, following a delicate investigative activity coordinated by the Castrovillari Public Prosecutor's Office, directed by the Chief Prosecutor Alessandro D'Alessio, carried out three precautionary measures of the "ban on approaching places frequented by the offended party". Measurements that must be carried out according to the methods of electronic control towards recipients, members of a single family context and linked by family ties with the offended party, who were considered seriously suspected of having carried out a series of violent conduct resulting in a context of "mistreatment of family members or cohabitants".

Before continuing with the reconstruction of the facts, it seems appropriate to specify that the news is disseminated to guarantee the prerogatives of information and in respect of the rights of the suspects - who still have to be considered subject to the presumption of innocence pending the current phase of the proceedings, whose Criminal responsibilities can only be ascertained through a sentence that has become irrevocable.

The facts for which the Carabinieri, with the coordination of the Public Prosecutor's Office, proceeded date back to the middle of last March when in the local area, a video had been released through the main social networks, absolutely deplorable, where a fragile person, easily assimilated to a condition of disability, was beaten without hesitation by several subjects.

Images that shook many consciences and created the indignation of several users, some of whom thought it appropriate to report what was circulating on the web to the Carabinieri. The video was then acquired and, following the indications of the Prosecutor's Office, it then became the subject of a careful analysis aimed, in the first instance, at identify all the protagonists of this sad story and then to ascertain what the evidence was to demonstrate their personal responsibilities.

The investigations have opened up a desolate insight as the mistreated disabled person, once identified, was found in one condition of extreme discomfort, characterized above all by a clear state of malnutrition and abandonment, cyclically subjected to beatings and deprived of any economic support, despite receiving a disability pension. From the same activities, the evidence emerged to support the accusations of mistreatment which are attributed to the subjects seriously suspected of having been responsible for it towards their relative.

An important aspect, which deserves to be recalled, concerns the speed with which the State bodies moved after the video was reported, acting on different levels with the main aim of helping a fragile subject forced to experience obvious suffering , both physical and mental.

The investigating judge recognized the seriousness of the circumstantial framework, which will be the subject offurther evaluations in light of the elements that the suspects intend to provide, and accepted the precautionary and provisional request, although in a manner different from the PM's request regarding the severity of the measures to be applied.

The offended party was therefore removed from the context where he lived and relocated to a structure capable of supporting him and to meet his real needs, to allow him to live as dignified a life as possible.

The recipients of the precautionary measures will now no longer be able to approach or communicate with the offended party.
