Como, checked at the border: Turkish fugitive arrested for extradition purposes
Como, on the morning of Sunday 13 June 2021, staff of the State Police of the Como - Ponte Chiasso Border Police Sector, engaged in rear-crossing surveillance activities aimed at combating illegal immigration in the border area and verifying compliance of the rules establishing the Covid limitations, proceeded with the entry check at the Maslianico (CO) road crossing of the Mercedes AMG 45 S car (later found to be rented in Poland), occupied by four people. One of the occupants, the 42-year-old Turkish citizen AO, who was traveling with three compatriots, was found to have been subject to an international arrest order after consulting the databases for robbery, extortion and threats in relation to a criminal order issued on 27/12/ 2010 by the Assize Court of Istanbul and by a second provision issued by the Prosecutor of the Republic of Istanbul for various violations of the Turkish penal code, for a prison sentence to be served of 11 years, 4 months and 10 days of imprisonment. Having verified the relevance of the measures with the Service for International Police Cooperation of the Central Directorate of the Criminal Police, he was arrested for extradition purposes.
