Castagneto Carducci, Livorno. NAS Carabinieri controls in the catering sector: sanctions and precautionary seizure of 25 kg of untraceable food.

As part of the Carabinieri campaign aimed at combating counterfeiting in the food supply chain called "Opson XIII", the soldiers of the NAS - Anti-adulteration and Health Unit of Livorno carried out an inspection inside a wine shop in Bolgheri in the municipality of Castagneto Carducci.

Following a check to verify compliance with current legislation and prevent potential risks to public health, the Carabinieri ascertained that Refrigerated food products were stored inside the business for serving to customers (meat, vegetables, sausages, bread and pasta) without traceability that would allow the provenance to be verified, in violation of sector regulations which require food to be stored in packages from which, among other things, the expiry date, origin and batch number can be seen, an essential requirement to deal with any contamination.

All the food, approximately 25 kg and worth approximately 500 euros, were subjected to precautionary seizure, the 64-year-old owner was fined 1.500 euros and the competent authorities were informed.
