Caltanisseta, rave party at the “Cimia” dam: the police arrive and clear the area.

The State Police of Caltanissetta, in the early hours of the afternoon on Saturday 17 September, intercepted and cleared out a rave party before it had even begun: seventy participants, coming from different parts of Sicily and other regions of Italy, whose position will be examined in relation to the hypothesis of the crime of invasion of land and personal prevention measures under the jurisdiction of the Police Commissioner are being developed.

Hundreds of people could have taken part in the rave, in the territory of the municipality of Mazzarino, a state-owned area located in the Raffo Rosso district, in the Mazzarino countryside.

But the policemen of the Flying Squad and the Niscemi Public Security Police Station, following monitoring of the social platforms, intercepted the exact location of the rave party, launched with an indication of the geographical position on the social sites in the area near the dam " Cimia" and found the presence of seventy people from all over Sicily, Liguria and Piedmont, who arrived with campers, trucks and private vehicles to carry out the event.

At least another hundred people were prevented from reaching the rave thanks to police checkpoints set up on the access roads to the area. A stage had already been set up at the rave site with an amplification system powered by generators and several camping tents throughout the surrounding area.

The eviction

The clearing operations were ordered immediately by the Police Commissioner and the Prefect constantly monitored the evolution of the situation. Approximately seventy police officers were employed, forty from the Police Headquarters and thirty from the Mobile Units, as well as patrols and numerous soldiers from the Carabinieri, patrols from the Guardia di Finanza, units of the Departmental Forestry Inspectorate and personnel and the Fire Brigade, to guarantee the phases of identification and clearance operations.

The entire area was cordoned off and guarded and the upstream and downstream roads leading to the area were blocked with the help of the Traffic Police and the Carabinieri.

During the service, checkpoints were carried out on all the provincial and state roads leading to the site, with the help of the Palermo Traffic Police Department and police officers from the police stations of the neighboring provinces, in order to avoid the influx of other participants. A State Police helicopter from the fourth Palermo Flight Department also intervened to carry out aerial surveillance of the location.

The end 

During the operations, seventy participants were identified, arriving on board five campers, four trucks and around twenty cars. Many of those identified were found to have specific police prejudices for having participated in other "rave parties" in different regions of the national territory. The clearing of the area took place without disturbances, under the control of the police forces who intervened.

Around midnight all the participants finally left the site escorted by the police to the edge of the provinces of Catania and Agrigento. A police presence has been ensured in the area until the procedures are concluded.
