Cagliari, abandonment of waste: the owner of a kiosk fined
Cagliari, important intervention by the Soil Hygiene Supervision Section of the Local Police Force of the Municipality of Cagliari coordinated by Lt.Col. Sergio Margagliotti, which led to the denunciation of a commercial entrepreneur for the environmental crime of waste abandonment.
Following repeated reports in the Poetto area and surrounding areas of the municipal territory, on 07/06/2021, at the end of targeted investigations, some significant amounts of waste were abandoned, through multiple deposits on public land, on one or more dirt roads of the Poetto seafront.
The investigative activity, carried out also through the use of video surveillance systems in the Administration's equipment, brought to light the existence of the aforementioned waste deposits, consisting of a large number of black plastic bags, well closed, piled up together, all full of waste attributable to a kiosk serving food and drinks, operating on the Quartu SE coast, which contained material not differentiated by type, consisting of plastic cups, drink cans, drink suction straws , glass beer bottles, Bacardi, Bitter, Martini bottles, etc.
The person in charge was consequently ordered to proceed with the removal, through an authorized company, of the waste material from Lungomare Poetto, and its subsequent transfer to a landfill or other recovery centre.
The contested crime of illicit abandonment of waste provides for the application for the offender of the sentence of arrest from three months to one year or a fine of from two thousand six hundred euros to twenty-six thousand euros in accordance with the Environmental Consolidated Law, with communication to the competent Judicial Authority.
The intervention is part of a framework of activities implemented by the Municipal Administration in order to prevent and repress behaviors that conflict with urban regulations and aimed at restoring the environmental decorum of the city areas"
