Brescia, they planned an 80 million heist: 31 thieves ready to attack a vault arrested
Yesterday afternoon, in the province of Brescia, following investigations which have lasted for over 5 months directed by the District Anti-Mafia Directorate of the Public Prosecutor's Office of Brescia, with the operational coordination of the Central Anti-Crime Directorate of the State Police, the policemen of Brescia Flying Squad, the Carabinieri of the Special Operational Group and the Central Operational Service of the State Police, with the decisive intervention of the policemen of the Central Operational Security Unit (NOCS), arrested a criminal group of 31 people accused of being robbers specialized in attacks on armored vans and vaults, mostly coming from Cerignola (FG), who was about to carry out a massive armed robbery against the vault of a private security institute, based in Calcinato (BS). Also seized were 4 Kalashnikovs, 1 shotgun, an UZI machine gun, a pistol (with various ammunition), 21 Molotov cocktails and four-pointed nails.
The complex and detailed investigations, which lasted for over five months, in the final phase saw the deployment of an impressive device made up of personnel from the State Police and the Carabinieri whose components operated in synergy and close operational coordination . The Foggia Flying Squads also took part in the operation which allowed the group of alleged robbers to be arrested, Milano, Venice, Padua, Monza, Bergamo, Reggio Emilia, Verona, Piacenza, Parma, Cremona and the soldiers of the Carabinieri Provincial Command of Brescia.
The arrested people, who had gathered and were ready to take action late in the evening, are accused of having planned the attack on the vault for some time, unaware that they were being subjected to investigations conducted, with technical interception activities, by the Flying Squad of Brescia, by the Central Operational Service and by the Carabinieri Special Operational Group.
The alleged robbers, with criminal records, some believed to be linked to Foggia clans and Ndrangheta gangs, in the previous months had stolen around twenty cars, vans and trucks destined to be set on fire in order to isolate the area of interest and prevent the intervention of the Police Forces; They also had a bulldozer at their disposal which would have been used to break through the armored wall of the vault, which houses the proceeds collected from the shops in the area.
Among those arrested are also two "unfaithful" security guards, employees of the security institute which was the target of the robbery, accused of having played the role of "basemen", reporting to their accomplices that - at the time of the robbery - a sum of money could be lying in the vault. cash of approximately 80 million euros.
The investigators had been monitoring the movements of those arrested since last October, following all phases of the planning of the coup, including inspections and trips from Puglia to the Brescia area of the various members of the criminal group; through telephone and environmental interceptions, it was possible to monitor the obsessive attention to logistical aspects, including the provision of accommodation for associates on assignment at accommodation facilities that omitted the communication of customer data, to avoid the usual checks by the Police Headquarters.
The alleged robbers were ready to intervene by moving simultaneously from different places, communicating with dedicated telephones and radio equipment. A first group was ready to move from an industrial warehouse located in Cazzago S. Martino (where the previously stolen vehicles had been hidden) while two other groups were ready to leave from two "dens" located in Gardone Val Trompia and Ospitaletto.
The anti-crime operation was conducted simultaneously on all three of these objectives, employing over three hundred men and special vehicles.
The operation was also carried out thanks to the investigative coordination carried out by the National Anti-Mafia Prosecutor's Office.
The crimes contested are criminal association aimed at committing the crime of robbery, attempted multi-aggravated robbery, possession of weapons of war, receiving stolen vehicles, with the aggravating circumstance of the mafia method.
