Bordighera, escapes from house arrest and armed with a knife robs a supermarket: arrested by the Carabinieri.

Last weekend the Carabinieri of the Vallecrosia station arrested a forty-three-year-old in flagrante delicto held responsible for an attempted robbery at a supermarket in Piazza Garibaldi in Bordighera.

The man is in custody at his home since last December 15th, late Saturday afternoon, without any authorization and therefore committing the crime of escape, he left his home to go to Bordighera.

Arriving near the supermarket almost at closing time, perhaps because it was considered a more favorable time, he approached a cashier and, after taking out a switchblade that he kept hidden in his jacket, threatened the woman by ordering her to hand over the proceeds to him. A strong reaction and a loud request for help from the shop assistant and one of her colleagues surprised the attacker and at the same time attracted the attention of some customers who immediately tried to immobilize the robber who got the worst of it and was unable to do nothing but flee, chased by some passers-by and by the Carabinieri from the Vallecrosia station who had arrived on site in the meantime.

The chase ended with the arrest of the man by the Carabinieri near Via Monte Grappa and his arrest in flagrante delicto.

After the ritual formalities, the arrested person was taken to the Sanremo prison, where he is now at the disposal of the Judicial Authority, having to answer for the crimes of escape and aggravated armed robbery, crimes for which he now risks a sentence several years' imprisonment.
