Benevento, forest fires: the "Fiego arsonist" arrested, he is a local breeder

Benevento, the soldiers of the Carabinieri Forestali Station of Montesarchio (BN) supported by the soldiers of the NIPAAF at the Carabinieri Forestale Group of Benevento, arrested a fifty-year-old farmer PM responsible for the arson that occurred yesterday afternoon, in the countryside of the Municipality of Montesarchio to the Fiego area. The subject he was filmed in the act of starting the fire with a lighter and immediately afterwards he moved away from the ignition point. The military promptly carried out targeted searches aimed at apprehending the subject, who in the immediate subsequent phases was hidden, identified in an area downstream from the fire and arrested.

Surprised by the military, he was trying to get rid of a lighter which was promptly taken and seized by the Judicial Police.
The investigative activity carried out by the military was carried out through a preliminary historical analysis of the incendiary events, as well as through the application of a scientific method called "Physical Evidence Method" (MEF) which allowed the precise identification of the trigger points of the numerous fires developed in the area, which is annually devastated by continuous arson. Only last July the area was subject to extensive forest fires which required the use of numerous men and land vehicles, as well as the use of both national (Canadair) and regional (helicopters) firefighting aircraft. Therefore the military positioned various video surveillance devices, cleverly hidden among the vegetation, in the strategic points that emerged from the info-investigative activity. Upon the arrest carried out on the afternoon of August 5, 2021, the military ascertained that the arrested person was a sheep and goat breeder stationed with his flock in the same Fiego locality. Therefore the military assumes that the illegal conduct carried out is aimed at renewing the pasture to maximize the profit derived from their livestock farm. Now "the arsonist of Fiego" risks a prison sentence of 4 to 10 years as provided for by the art. 423-bis of the CP
The fire, which was put out by the firefighting teams of the Fire Brigade and the Campania Region only in the late evening, affected an area of approximately 2 hectares of oak woods, pastures and uncultivated land.
