Belluno, the Police stops an illicit transport of 20 kids

Belluno, the checks on the transport of live animals carried out along the provincial road axes by the Belluno Traffic Police made it possible to intercept an illegal transport of kids, probably destined for slaughter or in any case for trade, also considering the upcoming Easter holiday period to come.
A patrol belonging to this Section, during a surveillance service last weekend, stopped a suspicious van in transit along the SS50 around 23pm on Saturday evening.
During the document check, the operators heard moaning sounds coming from the rear of the vehicle, which inevitably attracted their attention. Thus they discovered, all crowded into a metal cage, a total of twenty kids.
When asked for clarification, the driver-owner of an agricultural company based in the Province of Trento declared that he had collected them and loaded them onto the van from a local farmer, a transport which would have had as its destination the headquarters of his company in Trentino, over 100km away. away from the pick-up location.
Since the arrested person did not have any authorization or documentation relating to the transport of the animals with him, the agents contacted the veterinary service of the ULSS of Belluno in order to have a competent doctor intervene on site to check the state of health and well-being of the transported kids.
On the recommendation of the veterinary doctor who intervened, therefore, the animals were precautionarily returned to the place of collection, while the Road operators charged the illegal transporter with the sanctions relating to the documentary irregularities found and the lack of the required authorisations, which amounted to a total amount of approximately 5.000,00 euros.
The checks will continue unabated in order to ensure that the transport of live animals always takes place in compliance with the requirements to guarantee public health, and the well-being and health, of course, of the animals themselves.
