Belluno: intense work by the State Police in the ski areas during the Christmas holidays.
The Christmas holidays were days of hard work for the State Police specialists on duty at the Arabba, Falcade and Palafavera detachments in Val di Zoldo.
The enormous influx of tourists recorded on the slopes of the various ski areas (from 23.12.23 to 07.01.24 there were over 840.000 passages) has in fact forced the agents to carry out "extraordinary" measures and intensify checks on the slopes to prevent accidents due to reckless conduct by some imprudent or not particularly expert skiers.
Over 200 skiers were stopped and identified during this prevention activity, while the high administrative sanctions amount to 21, including the withdrawal of a ski pass, for imprudent conduct on the slopes such as: excessive speed, failure to wear a helmet by the minor, climbing up the slope by ski mountaineers without being equipped with rescue equipment (ArTva, shovel and probe) and the lack of compulsory insurance.
Despite the efforts made by the officers, however, there were not many interventions carried out to rescue people who were victims of accidents or collisions on the track: in particular, 64 interventions were carried out in Falcade, 42 in Arabba and 23 in Palafavera.
Specifically, the attached photos refer to a rescue operation carried out by specialist State Police personnel on 21 December on runway no. 6 of the Arabba ski area, where following a collision between two skiers, one of the involved, a 31-year-old Slovenian citizen, suffered a head injury which required the intervention of an air ambulance and the subsequent transport of the injured person to the hospital in Agordo for further investigations.
For this reason, the State Police recommends that all ski lovers always behave prudently and appropriately to the snow conditions on the slopes., the type of track and above all your skill level; to check the functionality of the equipment and to wear a helmet (also advisable where optional) and compulsory insurance. Finally, it is recommended to observe the rules on precedence (those coming from upstream must give precedence to those in the valley) and to avoid stopping in the center of the slopes or in any case at the crossroads of the slopes.
In case of doubt, any information on safety can be requested from the police operators on duty who will continue to monitor for the entire season to guarantee everyone a safe "fun on the track".
