Battipaglia (Salerno), attempted extortion and threats to a young entrepreneur: 7 Indians arrested

In today's data, the Carabinieri of the Company's Operational and Radiomobile Unit of Battipaglia have implemented an application order for personal precautionary measures issued by the GIP of the Court of Salerno at the request of this Public Prosecutor's Office, against 7 subjects of Indian nationality, without a criminal record, recipients of the precautionary measure of house arrest with application of the remote control method (electronic bracelet), investigated in various capacities for the crimes of attempted extortion, persecutory acts, robbery, private violence, aggravated personal injury and illegal possession of objects capable of offending, all in concurrence.

The precautionary measure, applied in relation to the risk of repetition of crimes and contamination of evidence, considered the existence, At the state, of serious evidence of guilt against the aforementioned, in relation to various hypotheses of crime committed against one of their fellow countrymen, young entrepreneur owner of several barber salons, located in Battipaglia and other Italian cities, who was allegedly approached and threatened several times and who would have been asked for money, in exchange for the "protection" that the suspects would have guaranteed in favor of his shop located in Battipaglia.

The victim refused numerous extortion requests, perpetrated from September 2022 until February 2024, would have been subjected to repeated threatening behaviour, vexatious and violent and as a result of them forced to change their lifestyle habits.

The suspects are also considered seriously suspected, in various capacities, of further crimes, such as aggravated robbery, private violence and aggravated personal injury, for having carried out violent and intimidating conduct also to the detriment of two other compatriots, close to the aforementioned shop owner.

One of these, last May 4th, he was apparently robbed of his backpack in via Roma in Battipaglia, while the other, last December 4, 2023, he would have been attacked and injured with an iron bar. On that occasion, some of the recipients of today's measure they were found in possession of an iron club, wooden sticks and steel brass knuckles.

In recent months, the suspects have literally persecuted the victim of the extortion request and people close to him, in order to cause her isolation and to induce her to give in to requests for money, also threatening transversal retaliation against her family members residing in India.
