Agrigento, 140kg of hashish seized in Porto Empedocle, drugs also on fishing boats.
The State Police of Agrigento carried out, on the orders of this Public Prosecutor's Office, which coordinated the investigations, 17 precautionary measures against as many subjects held responsible, in various capacities, for drug dealing in competition, attempted extortion and more. The precautionary measures were issued by the investigating judge of the Court of Agrigento.
The seizure of 140kg of hashish
The legal case, reconstructed by the Flying Squad of Agrigento and the PS Commissariat of Porto Empedocle, dates back to 2019 and is inspired by a seizure of five kilograms of narcotics, carried out by the staff of that Commissariat.
The investigations were extended by the Flying Squad investigators, also in collaboration with the Coast Guard of Porto Empedocle and allowed the seizure of over 140 kg of hashish, some on the mainland where it had been hidden by today's suspects.
Drugs in fishing boats
During the investigations, thanks to the naval vehicles supplied to the Coast Guard, some fishing boats passing through the Sicilian channel were checked, even at night, and with the help of Coast Guard divers, another 12 kilos of hashish were recovered in the area in front of the port of Porto Empedocle.
Investigations and criminal proceedings
The main suspects are members of the VOLPE – FIORE families of Porto Empedocle and numerous other individuals who have had contact with them. The criminal proceedings are against more than 40 individuals, mostly originating from the province of Agrigento.
