Rome. 47-year-old arrested on suspicion of a series of multi-aggravated robberies on the street and at some commercial establishments.

We inform you, in compliance with the right of the suspect (to be considered presumed innocent in consideration of the current phase of the proceedings - preliminary investigations - until a definitive finding of guilt with an irrevocable sentence) and in order to guarantee the constitutionally guaranteed right to freedom of the press that , on the morning of 16 March 2024, in Vicovaro Mandela (RM), the investigators of the Detached PS Commissariat of "Tivoli-Guidonia" and the Carabinieri of the Tivoli Company a precautionary custody order was executed against SU, a 47-year-old with numerous criminal and police records, for crimes against property and drugs, as he was seriously suspected of a series of multi-aggravated robberies perpetrated between 9 December 2023 and 4 February 2024, on the street and in some commercial establishments in Tivoli and the hamlet of Villa Adriana.

Among the victims, an elderly lady, followed from inside a Post Office in the city centre, where she had collected her pension and followed to the entrance hall of her home. At that point, threatening her with a gun, the man followed her down the stairs with the intention of snatching her bag. The decisive reaction of the old woman, who began to scream for help, attracted the attention of other people who, averting further violent initiatives by the man, led him to flee.

Other robberies were instead carried out at commercial establishments in the center of Tivoli and Villa Adriana - clothing, shoe and gift shops – perpetrated, even within a few minutes of each other, by misrepresenting and threatening the victims with death, as well as threatening them with firearms.

In one case, he even went so far as to use the stinging spray against a client - an Agent of the Local Police of Guidonia Montecelio who courageously disarmed him, in order to neutralize his strong reaction, thus managing to earn his escape.

Criminal actions which, due to the man's modus operandi and intimidating determination, caused a strong media outcry in the Tiburtina area, creating social alarm.

The elements analyzed by the State Police investigators were thus cross-referenced and shared with those collected by the Carabinieri, helping to form an evidentiary framework which led to the issue, upon request, by the GIP of a restrictive measure, which therefore shared the conclusions reached in the information, thus describing the evidentiary elements: "precise and concordant", "granitic", "coherent ” and finally concluding that: “…The specific methods and circumstances of the facts…account for the perpetration of multiple robberies, in a limited territorial area, within a short time distance between them, with a distorted face and the use of a weapon, to the detriment of several people ( even disturbed in the exercise of their respective work activities) and with consequent marked tendency to cause serious social alarm...".

Once again, the importance of the video surveillance systems installed in the city, which allowed for the rapid identification of the man, must be underlined. Similarly, applause must be given to the people who witnessed the robberies, who did not hesitate to give their contribution to the investigators, demonstrating the importance of civic sense and the availability of citizens in the prevention and fight against particularly heinous crimes such as robberies of elderly people and commercial operators, as well as to the judicial police who assisted the Prosecutor's Office.
