Chieti, interventions on the kennel: a 180 thousand euro project and the establishment of three new cat colonies are ready.
“The municipal administration took immediate action on the situation of the kennel, acting as soon as the NAS carried out the inspection in the area of the municipal structure, so much so that the project is already ready and we are awaiting the formalization of the budget change in order to be able to assign jobs”, they clarify mayor of Chieti, Diego Ferrara, andcouncilor for the protection of the animal world, Fabio Stella. “In taking action, we had to note that the situation we were faced with was much more serious than expected, especially with regards to the electrical systems, because the technical problems and compliance with the regulations in force regarding the systems, not they are only on the paintings – explains the councilor Fabio Stella – but also on the same underground power lines that power the various areas of the kennel, they were so serious that a more complex project was needed to be able to address and resolve them. We did not expect this situation, but it is clear that it is the result of many years of neglect and lack of interventions in the area, left abandoned by those who preceded us, despite the conditions being clearly precarious and in emergency.
Unfortunately, that of electrical systems is not the only non-compliant situation that this Administration will have to face, but we have managed to find over 180.000 euros to also carry out other works and we plan to act as soon as time allows. The kennel is a structure that not only concerns us, but works, where the associations that manage it are carrying out concrete and important action so that the dogs are only passing through and so that those who stay there are well while awaiting adoptions which are continuous . Unfortunately, the timetable for ongoing interventions does not depend on the will of this Administration, but rather on the situation of instability which complicates bureaucratic procedures, extending the deadlines and start-ups of works for each type of intervention. But we have made a clear commitment on this situation, because the Ferrara Administration has always shown itself to be attentive to the issue of animal welfare, as demonstrated by the actions carried out so far, as well as the various projects in the field, including the one on walking and walking areas It is our intention to make a public notice as soon as possible to give a contribution to those responsible for cat colonies to carry out the sterilization and treatment of cats.
This will happen following the permanently rebalanced budget, i.e. the planning document that the Municipality of Chieti will have to equip itself with in the coming months and which will have a particular draft due to the bankruptcy procedure. In the meantime three new cat colonies will be established, one in the university campus, the others in via Forlani and on the roundabout in via Ricciardi, demonstrating our commitment to animal welfare. With this recognition, the leaders of the colony can ask the Local Health Authority to sterilize the cats to control births and reduce stray animals, as well as receive contributions for the right sustenance, in response to a public notice that provides resources for this purpose. We would like to reassure the managers of the kennel, the Asada association which does an excellent job for the management and all the other activities dedicated to the animals which represent an added value for our city and with which we are always available to create synergies".
