This morning, the Carabinieri of the Provincial Command of Catanzaro and the ROS, under the coordination of the District Anti-Mafia Directorate (DDA) of the Public Prosecutor's Office of Catanzaro, carried out an important operation against organized crime. In various locations on the Ionian coast of Calabria and in the regions of Lazio, Piedmont and Lombardy, 44 precautionary measures issued by the Judge for Preliminary Investigations (GIP) at the Court of Catanzaro were carried out.

The investigation led to the arrest of 15 people in prison and 29 under house arrest. The suspects are accused, to varying degrees, of serious crimes, including 'ndrangheta-type association, procuring non-compliance with a sentence, arms trafficking and multiple crimes against the person and property, all aggravated by mafia purposes. The charges also include the crime of political-mafia electoral exchange and drug-related violations.

The investigation and the crimes charged

The operation represents a new blow to organized crime in Calabria and other regions of the country. Investigators have reconstructed a dense network of relationships between members of the 'ndrangheta and other individuals involved in illegal activities, including arms and drug trafficking. The investigations have also brought to light alleged links between some of the suspects and local political circles, with hypotheses of political-mafia electoral exchange.

The arrests carried out today are part of the preliminary investigation phase, during which the accusatory framework will have to be further examined. The evidence collected by the Carabinieri of the ROS and the Provincial Command of Catanzaro was deemed sufficient by the GIP to issue the precautionary measures, as evidence of the seriousness of the contested facts.

A strong signal against organized crime

Today's operation confirms the commitment of law enforcement and the judiciary in the fight against the 'ndrangheta, a criminal organization that continues to exercise strong control over the territory and economic activities. The investigative strategy aims not only to hit the top figures of the clans, but also to dismantle their ties with the political and business world.

The investigation by the Catanzaro District Anti-Mafia Directorate shows how the 'ndrangheta maintains a range of action that goes beyond regional borders, with ramifications also in Central and Northern Italy. Today's operations mark an important step in the repression of organized crime, but also in the protection of legality and citizen safety.

The investigations continue and further developments are expected, while justice will take its course to ascertain the responsibilities of the suspects.
