Food safety in the Catanzaro area: Carabinieri conduct massive checks, seizing over 150 kilos of illegal products.

A comprehensive public health operation has spanned the entire province of Catanzaro, where Carabinieri officers from the Provincial Command, supported by NAS and NIL Special Units, have intensified checks at local markets and food businesses. The inspection, part of a broader strategy to prevent and combat irregularities in the agri-food sector, led to the seizure of over 150 kilograms of food found to be non-compliant with current traceability and safety regulations.

Joint action between the Arma, NAS and ASP

The inspections were conducted through a coordinated effort involving the local Carabinieri, members of the Anti-Adulteration and Health Unit, and, in some cases, technicians from the Catanzaro Provincial Health Authority. This collaborative effort allowed for thorough checks along the entire supply chain, from production to sale, with particular attention to correctly indicating the products' origins and ensuring compliance with health and hygiene regulations.

Soverato, irregularities at the weekly market

The first significant incident was discovered in Soverato, during an inspection at the weekly market. A technical inspection conducted with the support of the ASP identified approximately 40 kilograms of various food products and 30 liters of olive oil, completely lacking the necessary documentation to ensure their traceability. The goods were immediately seized, and the person responsible was charged with an administrative violation, resulting in a fine of €11.000.

Unlabeled cured meats and cheeses seized at Soveria Mannelli

A second operation was carried out in Soveria Mannelli, where Carabinieri officers from the Catanzaro NAS conducted an inspection inside a supermarket. During the inspection, they found 82 kilograms of cured meats and cheeses without any traceability markings, a key element to ensuring consumer safety. In this case, too, the irregular products were immediately seized.

Cropani, poor sanitation and illegal employment

The third operation involved the municipality of Cropani. Carabinieri officers from the Sellia Marina Company, with the assistance of the NAS and NIL, identified a supermarket characterized by serious hygiene and sanitation deficiencies and widespread irregularities in the management of food production, processing, and distribution. During the investigation, the employment of an illegal worker was also discovered. The operation concluded with the seizure of over 9 kilograms of food and the imposition of an administrative fine of €10.000 on the business owner.

Consumer protection and legality in trade

The operation conducted in the Catanzaro area confirms the Carabinieri's constant attention to food safety and legality in the commercial sector. Ensuring that safe, controlled, and regulatory-compliant products reach citizens' tables is a priority, especially in a context where food traceability is a fundamental safeguard for public health.
