Catanzaro: Calabrian leaders of Forza Nuova arrested on charges of racially motivated assault.

In the early hours of the morning, the Catanzaro State Police carried out a major operation that led to the arrest of the Calabrian leaders of the far-right movement. Forza nuovaThree people—the regional, provincial, and city representatives of the organization—were placed under house arrest by the Preliminary Investigations Judge of Catanzaro at the request of the local Public Prosecutor's Office.

The three suspects are seriously suspected of having committed crimes related to the propaganda of discriminatory ideologies, incitement to violence and incitement to hatred on racial, ethnic and religious grounds.

The March attack: a manhunt in the heart of the city's nightlife

According to the investigators' reconstruction, the episode dates back to March 2025. The three Forza Nuova members were in one of the most popular youth nightlife areas of Catanzaro, busy putting up a banner with the words:
“MARANZA A CATANZARO ON CHEESE 'NTA PANZA”, an expression with clearly discriminatory content.

At that moment, a foreign citizen passing by was allegedly targeted for no apparent reason. The man was allegedly repeatedly kicked and punched, while he was insulted and addressed with the term “maranza”, used in a derogatory tone and with racial connotations.

The victim, in an attempt to escape the attack, reportedly sought refuge by fleeing through the streets of the city center. However, the three continued the chase in a car. turning the episode into a real manhunt. Once reached, the stranger would be further threatened with a metal club, a tool that the attackers had equipped themselves with to intimidate him.

The investigations: the work of the Flying Squad and the Digos

The investigative activity, conducted jointly by the Flying Squad and Digos of Catanzaro, made it possible to reconstruct the salient moments of the attack and to identify the alleged perpetrators.

During the house searches carried out on the suspects, the officers found and seized the metal club used for threats, considered a key element in confirming the accusatory reconstruction.

The investigation also documented the direct involvement of three Forza Nuova members, who, according to the evidence gathered, acted with a clear discriminatory motive.

The judicial framework

The investigation is still in the preliminary phase. preliminary investigations, and all the charges will have to be verified in the subsequent trial with cross-examination between the parties. However, the seriousness of the charges remains: the suspects are charged with the crime of propaganda and incitement to crime on the grounds of racial, ethnic and religious discrimination, as well as private violence and aggravated assault.

The State Police operation represents a new blow against extremist groups active in Calabria and underscores the authorities' focus on racial hatred and political violence.
