Naples, project approved for new artistic lighting of the monumental gardens of Princess Jolanda.

La Municipal Council approved, upon proposal of Councilor Cosenza, the technical-economic feasibility project of the artistic lighting intervention of the monumental gardens of Princess Jolanda. The intervention is part of the broader program “Redevelopment of the access areas to the Capodimonte Forest”, financed with funds from “Culture and Tourism Operational Plan (FSC) 2014 – 2020 – Institutional Development Contract for the Historic Center of Naples”.

The gardens of Princess Jolanda develop along the stairs that lead from “Tondo di Capodimonte” they rise towards the Museum and Real Bosco di Capodimonte. It dates back to Francis I of Bourbon in 1826 the decision to create a monumental and panoramic access to the Royal Palace of Capodimonte. The project, entrusted toarchitect Niccolini, included, among other things, a monumental staircase with several seats and divided into several tiers, surrounded all around by a grove composed of tree species.

The staircase is enriched with Egyptian marble vases, which mark the beginning of the staircase, and by garlands: on the one on the left there is the wording of the gardens, on the one on the right the coats of arms of the Municipality of Naples and of the House of Savoy. The new lighting system will have to be enhance these architectural and sculptural elements and tree species, than creating a recognizable piece of the city on the scale of the road infrastructure in which the gardens are inserted.

< > the councilor underlined Cosenza << will guarantee the afternoon and evening visibility to the gardens giving greater sense of security for passing citizens and will enhance an important cultural heritage. Further insights and enhancements will occur with the subsequent project phases>>.

“The work of recovery and redevelopment of the city's green spaces and urban parks is progressing – declared the councilor Santagada Green – This provision underlines the transversality between the various departments who have the common intention of contributing to an increasingly green, clean and usable city. These initiatives will continue in the coming weeks in all city districts"
