Gela: 50-year-old arrested for possession of a large arsenal of weapons. 7 pistols, 2 rifles and more than 1.000 rounds of ammunition seized

During a police operation aimed at prevention and repression of crimes relating to illegal possession of weapons, last March 12th in Gela several have been performed extraordinary control services of the territory, also with the use of anti-explosive dog units of the State Police.

Following a search operation, the officers of the Flying Squad and SISCO, Investigative Section of Caltanissetta of the Central Operations Service of the State Police, have found, hidden inside a premises owned by a man from Gela, a huge arsenal of weapons, composed of seven pistols, two rifles and more than a thousand rounds of ammunition of different calibers.

Following the seizure of the weapons, by order of the Public Prosecutor's Office at the Court of Gela, AS, 50enne, was taken to prison in a state of arrest in the act of committing a crime and investigated for illegal possession of firearms and receiving stolen goods; from initial investigations it would in fact appear that some weapons had been stolen in the past, others would appear to have erased serial numbers and, therefore, should be considered clandestine.

The discovery of the exceptional arsenal of weapons and related ammunition attests to the high level of attention paid by the investigating authorities in the repression of crimes relating to the illegitimate possession of firearms.

Investigators will now have to to ascertain whether the weapons could have been used to commit previous criminal acts which occurred in the past in Gela and in the province of Caltanissetta.
