Climate change: the Sardinia Region launches the thematic table in the coastal area
La Region accelerates the work on the development of the new regional strategy for adaptation to climate change in coastal areas.
In fact, on February 12th, the The council has decided to start the works for the establishment of a Thematic Table for the development of the Strategy and aims to define the guidelines and recommendations for Integrate climate adaptation in regional planning and programming tools.
"Sardinia is particularly exposed to the effects of climate change and the Region has the duty to act with a targeted and integrated strategy“, says the Councillor for Environmental Protection, Rosanna Laconi, who brought the proposal to the council.
Il Thematic Table will be composed of a working group which brings together various sectors of the regional administration to find concrete solutions to the problems caused by climate change in coastal areas.
Experts and representatives of the Departments of the Environment, Tourism, Local Authorities and Urban Planning, with the purpose of improve the management of the Sardinian coasts, protect the areas most at risk and plan interventions that help the territories to coping with extreme weather events, such as beach erosion and sea level rise.
Coordination is entrusted to the General Directorate for Environmental Protection, which will guide the work and ensure that the decisions taken are transformed into concrete actions for the protection of the territory. TheCapo Carbonara Marine Protected Area It will be the pilot site for testing the measures envisaged in the regional plan.
The initiative is part of the programme Interreg EuroMED, which aims to strengthen the climate resilience of Mediterranean territories through the adoption of nature-based solutions.
The project “NaTour4CChange”, in particular, is aimed at develop strategies for sustainability of coastal tourism and the management of transitional ecosystems.
